Montreal’s most delectable ice cream

Summer without ice cream? Unimaginable! Not to mention, after such a harsh winter, we deserve a treat. Here’s our list of the 4 best sherbet and ice cream parlours in Montreal – tried, tested and chosen with the utmost care – that will make you want to cry out in ecstasy, like Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally.

Crèmerie Meu Meu – 4458 Saint-Denis Street: You can count on a warm welcome at this friendly, little ice cream parlour where you will be tempted to taste all of the delectable flavours they offer. Personally, we recommend either the cardamom or the cheese with cherry coulis ice cream. No need to panic, scaredy-cats: they also offer more traditional flavours, made with all-natural ingredients and in some cases, available in lactose-free, soy milk versions. Cash only. No website or official FB page available.

L’Armoire à Glaces – 6220 Saint-Hubert Street: Fresh ingredients and unique recipes (such as avocado and lime confit or maple butter and bacon) or, less extravagant options like the excellent Sicilian pistachio or espresso ice cream that comes with a freshly brewed Saint-Henri coffee. Their latest invention? The vegan-friendly, coconut milk-based, vanilla or chocolate ice cream! In a nutshell: a place definitely worth visiting the next time you’re on a shopping spree at Saint-Hubert Plaza.MB_creme_glacee

Kem CoBa – 60 Fairmount Avenue West: Looking for the perfect marriage of flavours to awaken your taste buds? This place is made for you! Not only can you rely on the quality of their ingredients, but this Mile-End institution is also known for such whimsical flavours as hibiscus, lime-mint or chai tea. Make sure to drop by often, as their flavours change regularly. Don’t their latest flavour: La Passionnée (Madagascar vanilla/Passion fruit).  Addictive? Don’t say you weren’t warned! Cash only.

Maison Christian Faure – 355 Place Royale  Our list would not be complete without this exceptional, must-visit pastry shop, founded by Christian Faure, winner of the Meilleur Ouvrier de France Glacier award. With a solid gold CV like that, we know your expectations are high. We promise, you won’t be disappointed. You will find all the traditional flavours here, but with a subtle je-ne-sais-quoi. Their take-out containers are practical, chic and filled to the brim… perfect for a refreshing stroll  along the boardwalk of the Old Port!
